They’ve been called “gender terrorists”, “performance art revolutionaries”, and the “kind of drag queens your mother warned you about”; but underneath all of the spectacle of Portland’s premiere shock-drag troupe "Sissyboy" is a group of amazingly insightful and sensitive individuals who have found an outlet for their self-expression that often leaves their audiences simultaneously delighted and horrified.
Any Sissyboy will tell you that underneath the glitter, fake eyelashes, social commentary and off-color humor is a very real, and often very painful presence that causes them to create their unique brand of art. “Sissyboy is group therapy for twelve gay men” says member Benjamin Porter - who attributes his participation in Sissyboy in helping his father come to terms with his own homosexuality -“We get on stage and we get to be the monsters that haunted us as we were growing up, and the ones that still haunt us today”.
Presented as an official "Cuddle Cinema" selection at Comfort & Joy's 2010 Faetopia Festival in San Francisco. This screening will features concessions sponsored by Cafe Flore (which is featured as a set in the film) & Taylor's Tonics.
